HRO Today: Alicia O’Brien discusses skills-centric recruitment

July 17, 2024

Alicia O’Brien, SVP of innovation and customer success at WilsonHCG, spoke to reporters from HRO Today about why so many organizations are switching to skills-centric recruitment.

She said the shift is largely due to skills shortages, declining birth rates, aging populations, the multi-generational workforce, drops in university enrollment, recent global events, job market fluctuations and technological advancements.

“By focusing on skills rather than education, talent leaders have access to bigger, more diverse talent pools, making it much easier to address both immediate and long-term needs, while enhancing productivity,” O’Brien explained.

“The emphasis on hard skills ensures technical proficiency while prioritizing soft skills can help to improve team dynamics and overall workplace culture,” she added.
